Austria’s faltering dominance of its Grüner Veltliner
Grüner Veltliner is Austria's signature grape, accounting for almost a third of the country's acreage.
However: reduction of vineyard area, an absent focus and other criteria threaten the international supremacy of Austria in terms of Grüner.
Laurenz Maria Moser of the Austrian Grüner producer LAURENZ V. provided an insight into the topic - mainly from an export view - at the fifth "Vetlliner Symposium" in Poysdorf, Lower Austria. The goal of Austria's winemakers should be to strengthen the leading role and to position Austria as global market leader of Grüner on a long term basis.
